Mirigama Railway Station Expansion

The Mirigama Railway Station Expansion, proposed by Design Plan Associates (DPA), reimagines the station as a modern regional transport hub that supports Sri Lanka’s railway modernisation programme. The proposal enhances passenger capacity, accessibility, and multimodal connectivity while carefully preserving the historic identity and architectural character of the existing station. By integrating contemporary transport infrastructure with high-quality public spaces and improved passenger facilities, the project strengthens the role of Mirigama as a key gateway in the northern part of the Western Region. The proposal contributes to the broader vision of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) by encouraging compact, accessible, and sustainable urban growth centred around an efficient public transport network.
