Buduruwagala Visitor Facilities, Wellawaya
4 photographs
An ongoing visitor-facility complex serving the sacred Buduruwagala rock-carving precinct in Wellawaya, conceived as a quiet, low-set pavilion that defers to the landscape and to the towering carved Buddhist figures it serves. Pitched timber-frame roofs, brickwork walls and shaded verandahs draw on the regional vernacular, while a permeable courtyard ground and integrated planting allow the building to recede into its forested setting.
