Urban Design Master Plan Borella Township

12 photographs

Served as the Project Lead, coordinating the multidisciplinary consultancy team from project inception to the completion of the Borella Urban Design Master Plan in 2022, which was subsequently presented to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) Planning Committee. Commissioned by the UDA, the Master Plan establishes a 15–20-year strategic framework to guide the transformation of approximately 60 acres of Borella into “a vibrant, diverse and upscale integrated township” and “a compact, well-connected, socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable community.” Positioned as a key transit-oriented development node on the edge of Colombo’s Central Business District, the proposal promotes sustainable urban regeneration, investment, and enhanced public realm. It provides a comprehensive vision to strengthen Borella’s identity, unlock development potential, improve connectivity, and elevate urban quality through integrated land use, mobility, public space, and design strategies. The Master Plan also supports future statutory planning through alignment with the City Centre Action Plan, creating a robust framework for long-term urban growth and investment.
